LNA Solutions BeamClamp installation

How to Install and Use Beam Clamps Safely

LNA Solutions offers a wide variety of devices to make steel-to-steel connections sturdier while streamlining the process of installing them. Like any implement used in a construction project, BeamClamps® can only be as good as the quality of their installation, so to ensure they can be as safe and resilient a connection option as possible, it’s important to know how to install them safely and properly.

Understanding Beam Clamps

BeamClamps® are indispensable components in steel construction, providing robust support for joining steel girders with adaptability and accessibility not found in welding-based solutions. Engineered for durability and stability, our BeamClamps® are tailored to meet the demands of industrial and commercial applications to keep construction projects sturdier and construction worksites safer.

Tools Required

BeamClamps® only require a couple of tools to install aside from the necessary PPE:

  • Flat Wrench
  • Torque Wrench
  • Any applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hats etc.

Components Required

Generally, BeamClamps® will always include four clamps and the steel frame that anchors them between both girders. It’s important to ensure you have all the proper components for what the task requires before you begin.

Steps for Installation

  1. Prepare the Work Area
Clear the work area of debris and ensure the girders are clean and free from contaminants.
  2. Position the Frame Plates
Carefully align and support the steel girders in the desired configuration, ensuring the frame plate is placed evenly in between.
  3. Select the Right BeamClamps®
Choose the appropriate BeamClamps® based on load capacity and configuration requirements.
  4. Attach the BeamClamps®
Securely fasten the BeamClamps® to each girder using the provided fasteners, ensuring even distribution of load. BeamClamps® should be secured one at a time, making sure that they are equally distributed on either side. To ensure an even distribution of weight, do not attach two beam clamps on one side before fastening one to the opposite side.
  5. Verify Alignment
Before tightening, make sure each clamp is aligned properly. The front and back edges of the clamps should run parallel with the edge of the steel sections they’re affixed to.
  6. Tighten the Clamps
Now once everything is aligned properly, it is time to tighten the bolt on each of the four clamps. Make sure to hold the head of the bolt with a standard wrench, while tightening the nut with a torque wrench. Only tighten to the recommended torque appropriate for the angle to which you’re attaching the girders to avoid damaging the clamps or compromising the integrity of the connection.

Safety Precautions to Consider

While BeamClamps® expedite the steel connecting process and don’t require the meticulous attention or skill required for welding, it’s still vitally important to make sure the necessary safety precautions are being taken during the installation process.

Never exceed the maximum permissible weight overloads. Before using any LNA Solutions connection product, be sure the steel they are connecting to is capable of supporting the load.

Be sure you’re using BeamClamps®  only as specified in these instructions.

When using BeamClamps®, check these parameters of the connection first:

  • The thickness of each steel section.
  • The width of each steel section.
  • The cross-over angle of the steel.
  • Appropriate tightening torque
  • Tensile load, frictional load, or both as applicable
  • Resistance of the materials being connected
