Ship Deck Flooring Installation

Challenge: General Dynamics NASSCO isn’t just a world-class shipbuilding company that has designed and constructed naval vessels for Exxon, the U.S. Navy, and other globally-recognized clients since 1960, they’re also one of LNA Solutions’ longest-tenured clients. When NASSCO needed to engineer a way to secure their ship’s deck flooring in a way that can be easily replaced when damaged and removed to accommodate storage, LNA was tasked with providing a solution. Normally, steel flooring on ships of this kind would be tack-welded together, a permanent process that is durable but makes the flooring itself difficult to remove. Removing the flooring is useful if high traffic on the ship causes it to wear down or if equipment is stored underneath. This way replacements could easily be swapped out, and items stored below deck-flooring can be more easily accessed.

Solution: In order to affix the steel flooring sturdily while allowing for the flexibility the removable solution was needed for in the first place, LNA Solutions employed the use of their FloorFix HT fixtures, a removable fitting that is proven to be secure in the most rigorous use-cases and scenarios. Using FloorFix HT to attach the steel flooring gave NASSCO the flexibility they were looking for without compromising on the durability the flooring of a ship deck needs to keep its personnel standing on solid ground. When the floor sections do need to be removed, FloorFix HT can be uninstalled with ease.
