Challenge: Following the successful installation of SoFi Stadium’s massive overhead video screen, the stadium’s structural engineer contacted LNA once again with another challenge to overcome: installing the stadium’s new roof-mounted signage. This signage posed a unique challenge since although welding would typically be an obvious connection method under normal circumstances, the steel roof and aluminum tubes used to attach the signing could not be welded together because they are dissimilar metals. Welding these metals together would be possible but not optimal since the connection this creates is weaker than traditional welding, where only like metals are used. Now that welding was ruled out as a viable option, LNA was tasked with finding an alternative.
Solution: Considering welding the dissimilar metals would establish an insecure connection, the roof signage needed to be mounted in a fashion where the connection could be consistently strong enough to withstand intense wind and other potential natural influences. For that reason, LNA chose to mount the signage using BeamClamps. The most relevant advantage of BeamClamps in this specific use-case scenario is their strength and durability. In welding, the quality of a weld is what determines its strength, and that strength can be difficult to calculate or assess. However, BeamClamps are made of ductile steel and are tightened over the components they connect. This means the connection that BeamClamps establishes is always of the same consistent, highly-durable quality. Due to the use of BeamClamps, the SoFi Stadium signage was installed durably and reliably.
